Magnetic Particle Inspection
Based on the syllabi issued by the American Society
for Non-Destructive Testing (ASNT) and the General and Aerospace
requirements of PCN, the course provides a basic foundation for
technicians, inspectors and engineers called upon to witness, supervise
or conduct Magnetic Particle Inspection procedures.
The course satisfies the formal training element
of the Recommended Practice SNT-TC-1A issued by ASNT, and the requirements
of PCN/GEN/ and hence can lead to both Level I and Level II PCN,
SNT-TC-1A, BS EN 4179 or NAS-410 Accreditation.
Standards, such as BS 9934, BS.M35, and ASTM E1444
are introduced on this course. These can be complimented by specific
OEM procedural requirements if requested.
Practical aspects are emphasised by ensuring that
all theoretical training is complemented with the opportunity to
apply a variety of techniques and methods under the guidance of
qualified instructors, including exposure to a fully operational
Magnetic Bench Unit comprising AC and DC, current flow, flux flow
and coil operation. The unit also has “Swinging Field”
operation as well as “Mag Link” computer control. The
system is Nadcap, UKAS and CAA approved.
The aim of the course is to ensure that in addition
to level I candidates obtain a complete theoretical and practical
understanding of process control checks, indication evaluation and
instruction and report writing.
Students are assessed for comprehension and progress
during the course, via a structured series of both theoretical and
practical phase assessments, which facilitate counselling and assistance
where required. On request a formal end of course examination can
be conducted.
