Acid Etch Inspection
of Titanium
The course is designed to provide a thorough theoretical
and practical training in the principles of inspecting Titanium
metal and its alloys by acid etching as required by the principles
of BS EN 4179 and NAS 410 for Level II technicians required to undertake
the Acid Etch Inspection of these materials.
Appropriate Standards, Procedures, and Specifications
of National and International Standards organisations and those
of major Aerospace authorities including Airbus, Boeing, Rolls Royce,
Westland Helicopter, and others are introduced during the course.
Fully qualified instructors provide all tuition.
Students are assessed for comprehension and progress
during the course, via a structured series of both theoretical and
practical phase assessments, which facilitate counselling and assistance
where required. On request a formal end of course examination can
be conducted.
The course includes but is not limited to:-
Atomic structure, bonding, atomic structure
Titanium and its alloys
Titanium production and its relevance to testing
Equilibrium diagrams
Titanium metallurgy
Titanium alloy types
Metallurgical surface conditions of titanium
The etched structure
Practical etching of titanium
Solutions and process controls
Inspection and Interpretation of results
Health and Safety
Environmental factors
Lunches, refreshments, and a complete set of course notes will be
provided during the course.
NOTE: This course can be incorporated with our other courses
for chemical etch inspection when the element covering Titanium
becomes reduced in time.
