Acid Etch Inspection
Of Steels
The course is designed to provide thorough theoretical
and Practical Training, as may be required by the principles of
NAS-410 and EN4179 for Level II technicians required to undertake
the Acid Etch Inspection of Steels.
Theoretical training is complemented by practical
sessions appropriate to the Acid Etch Inspection methods in use
in the particular company concerned.
Standards, Procedures and Specifications such as
BS.M37, WHPS044 (Westland Helicopters), NDT6 (Dowty Aerospace),
ABP 1-1023 (BAE Systems and Airbus UK are introduced on this course.
All tuition is provided by fully qualified instructors.
The course includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- Summary of other NDT methods
- Atomic structure, bonding, and crystal structure
- Properties of alloys
- Equilibrium diagrams
- Hardening of steels, annealing, and tempering
- Metallurgical surface conditions
- The etched structure
- Etching methods
- Preparation of etching solutions and process control
- Etch inspection and interpretation
Students are assessed for comprehension and progress
during the course, via a structured series of both theoretical and
practical phase assessments, which facilitate counselling and assistance
where required. On request a formal end of course examination can
be conducted.
Lunch, refreshments and a full set of course notes will be provided
during the course.
